L'afrikaans utilise l'alphabet latin.
1. les voyelles :
a - as u in jump (kap)
e - as ee in deer (edel) or as e in hen (ken) or as e in angel (bevat)
i - as e in angel (sit)
o - as oo in loot followed by rapid w with pouted lips (bode) or as oo in loot, but shorter (euforie) or as o in fort but shorter (oggend) or as oy in boy (potjie)
u - as i in sick with lips pouted (u)
ê - as ai in hair (hê)
ô - as au in cause (môre)
2. les consonnes :
b, f, h, p, s, t et z se prononcent plus ou moins comme en Anglais.
c - as k in kitten (Calvinis) or as s in size (celcius)
d - as d in donkey (daar) or as t in hat (bed)
g - voiced (though sometimes unvoiced) guttural sound like ch in loch (geld) - hard g in the middle of a word
j - as y in you (jaar)
r - as r in very, but lightly rolled (duiker) or strongly rolled r, almost Scots (rooi)
v - as f in fun (vul)
w - as w in sweep, pronounced as "w" when after a "t,s", or as v in visit (water)
y - as ay in play (yster)
La prononciation et le vocabulaire afrikaans présentent de telles différences que des locuteurs, l'un parlant Afrikaans et l'autre Néerlandais ne peuvent se comprendre qu'en parlant lentement.
Il est significatif de constater que ces locuteurs préfèrent souvent utiliser l'anglais pour s'assurer d'une bonne compréhension mutuelle.
Pour un auditeur externe, la différence entre les phonèmes est telle qu'on entend deux langues bien distinctes. |
